The innovative NatureCounts app helps citizen science and research projects collect data in the field! The app can collect standard checklist data but can do much more, supporting an infinite number of configurations for almost any type of survey. It can be used for roadside route-based surveys, tracking individual species locations, collecting custom variables, tracking non-avian species, and more. The release of version 6.0 in 2024 has added another new feature, supporting the paperless collection of point count data with multiple time or distance intervals.

This new point count feature brings the traditional pencil-and-paper point count into the digital age. The surveyor can drop observations into distance circles on a map with a tap of the screen, and easily add multiple individuals, time intervals, and breeding evidence. As always, data collected on the app goes directly to NatureCounts, so there’s no need to perform manual data entry after the fact.

Best of all, the NatureCounts app works in tandem with eBird, allowing users to collect all the data they need and automatically sync checklists to their eBird accounts! Version 6.0 of the NatureCounts app is available for download now in the App Store and Google Play. To learn more, visit https://naturecounts.ca/nc/default/nc_app.jsp.
