How do I share data?

CanAvian accepts all forms of avian data that meet minimum metadata standards.

How best to share data depends on the type of data collected. For example, audio recordings collected using ARUs should be submitted to the WildTrax portal. Detailed datasets on point counts can be submitted to either WildTrax or NatureCounts. Point count data flows seamlessly between WildTrax and NatureCounts as per outlined data policies. All occurrence data should be submitted to the NatureCounts portal. Each portal has a range of privacy settings to meet diverse data privacy needs.

Where is the data locateD?

Data is located within one of several portals hosted by a data partner.

While access to the data is determined by each data set’s owners and contributors, we advocate for maximal openness and encourage data owners to share their data publicly. Most CanAvian data are openly accessible; in cases where projects are not fully public, the full data set can be requested through the relevant data portal.
