Who we are

CanAvian is a network of organizations committed to making data on birds in Canada more available and accessible.

CanAvian is managed by a steering committee of representatives from collaborating organizations. The committee provides guidance and oversight as we work towards our mission of connecting open data with users to support bird research and conservation.

CanAvian brings together bird data from varied sources under a shared banner, making it easy to access and use, and fostering collaboration and networking.

How CanAvian Works

CanAvian Data Collaborators

Working to improve data sharing, and collaboration.

The organizations that make up CanAvian collect, manage, and provide access to data on birds in Canada. They believe that shared, open data fosters innovation and supports conservation and policy-making. This commitment aligns with Target 21 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which aims to ensure that knowledge is available and accessible to guide biodiversity action.
